New Year’s Eve in Puerto Vallarta is a vibrant celebration filled with rich traditions and a festive spirit. Locals and tourists alike gather to bid farewell to the past year and welcome the new one with enthusiasm.
Puerto Vallarta comes alive with parties and fireworks and, as part of the celebrations, there are some fun Mexican “superstitions” that you can add to your night.
Twelve Grapes – eat 12 grapes at the stroke of midnight, each one representing an upcoming month in the new year. A sweet grape means you’ll enjoy good fortune in the corresponding month, but a sour grape is a warning to watch out for challenges.
First Visitor - the first person to enter your home in the new year is believed to bring good luck. In honor of this lucky guest, people often prepare their homes and dress in special attire to enhance their chances of attracting best possible positive energy.
Colorful Underwear – a fun favorite, the color of your underwear is believed to attract specific good fortune in the new year. Wearing red underwear is thought to bring love, while yellow is associated with prosperity and wealth. Our tip? Multicoloured to cover all your bases!
Suitcase – grab an empty suitcase from your storage and take it for a walk around the block to bring travel and adventure into 2025.
Tidy Up – clean the floors at midnight to “sweep out” the bad energy and set a clean slate for the new year. Mopping the floor and tossing out the mop water is also a popular option, but if you live in a condo, make sure you look below before tossing to make sure you don’t inadvertently soak a celebrating passerby!
